We value our supporters.

The creation of a WVU CRO is aligned well with the current focus of the HSC on developing a strong and diverse clinical and translational research infrastructure. Contract research is distinct from the faculty-driven research traditionally associated with academic health centers. The research topics and projects are determined by market need, rather than faculty research interest; the work is generally short-term, rather than part of an ongoing academic research program; and the results are provided to clients and do not usually result in publication in academic journals.

University affiliation.

However, we believe the creation of a University-affiliated CRO will provide mutual advantages to the Health Sciences Center and to clients. For HSC faculty and staff, there will be the opportunity to participate in a wider variety of research activities; to provide academic and scientific guidance to industry in a real-world setting; and to develop opportunities for students to participate in alternative models of research and explore careers in industry laboratories.

Client assurance.

For clients in the industry, the WVU affiliation will provide an assurance of research conducted under the highest scientific and ethical standards; reduce dependence upon offshore laboratories not subject to U.S. regulations and safeguards; and provide the opportunity to develop relationships with WVU for future research projects of wider scope in pharmaceutical development and basic sciences.
